In an exciting season opener, USC stuns LSU

The No. 23 USC Trojans pulled off a stunning upset over the No. 13 LSU Tigers in the season-opening match at Allegiant Stadium, winning 27–20 in a contest that will live in memory for years. The exciting game featured both teams’ potent offences and strong defences, but USC’s heroics in the closing minutes of the game sealed the victory.

The first half was a fiercely contested match with both teams trading blows. Caleb Williams was sadly missed, but USC’s rookie quarterback, Miller Moss, impressed with his calmness and accuracy in his place. The Trojans led 10–7 after his touchdown pass to Ja’Kobi Lane, but quarterback Jayden Daniels of LSU answered with a touchdown of his own to level the score at 10–10 at the half.

The back-and-forth battle that characterized the second half had spectators on the edge of their seats. Woody Marks’ touchdown run gave USC the lead back, but Daniels’ touchdown pass to LSU tied the score at 20–20 once more. USC was down three points with less than a minute to go and had to score to stay in the game.

But Moss was more than capable of the job. He led the Trojans on a thrilling drive and made several crucial passes, including one that Kyron Hudson caught with one hand to set up what may have been the game-winning field goal. With only eight seconds remaining, Marks made history by running the ball into the end zone for the game-winning score. However, USC chose to run the ball rather than settle for a kick.

For USC, who are starting their debut season in the Big Ten Conference, the victory was a major statement. It also demonstrated the potential of their youthful team, which, in addition to Moss, consists of several gifted players. Although LSU’s season began with a setback, they will have several chances to turn things around.

On the first weekend of college football, there were plenty of thrilling contests, including the USC-LSU encounter. Other noteworthy outcomes were Texas’ close escape versus Rice, Florida State’s shocking victory over Florida, and Alabama’s resounding triumph over Notre Dame. As the season goes on, we may anticipate even more exciting games and surprising results.
